Easy stove top recipe Indian style "Rice & Lentils"
I started cooking my own Indian food in May 2017. This is the first recipe I tried, basic rice with lentils. Very easy, and flavorful.
Ingredients:
3/4     Cup Tuvar Dahl (red split lentils)
 1/2      Cup Basamti Rice
 1           Large Potato
1           Large Onion (I use Vidalia onions)
2          Tablespoons Ghee (Or cooking oil of your choice)
 1/4       Teaspoon Cumin Seeds
 1/4       Teaspoon Ground Turmeric
2           Teaspoons Salt (I use Pink Himalayan salt)
 1 & 1/4  Cup Water

Directions:
Preparation:
  • Wash the Lentils and then put them into a bowl of warm water. Cover for 15 minutes. Drain well. Set aside.
  • Peel the Potato and cut in 1" chunks.
  • Slice the Onion thinly.
Cooking:
Heat Ghee in a large heavy pan
Fry Cloves & Cumin Seeds cook for 2 minutes.
Next add the sliced Onions and Cubed Potatoes cook for 5 minutes.
Add the Lentils, Rice, Turmeric, & Salt, cook for  3 minutes.
Add water
Bring to a boil, lower temperature, cover and simmer  for 15-20 minutes or until all of the water is absorbed  and the potatoes are tender.
Let stand for 10 minutes & serve.
ENJOY!

This Bellemain Micro-perforated colander is just awesome. Especially is you cook/strain small grain items, like Quinoa.
